Event FAQ

How do I attend a free in-store event?

To come to an event, all you need to do is show up. That said, we greatly appreciate you pre-registering so that we can plan accordingly — your registration helps us so much! It also lets us remind you about the event and alert you of any changes.

Does it cost money to attend?

Our in-store events continue to be free to attend! Of course, free to attend doesn’t mean free to produce. We encourage you to support our events program, authors, and local economy with a purchase (or two or three!).

Can I get a seat without registering?

Yes. Seating is first-come, first-serve, regardless of whether you registered. Standing room is generally also available.

Can I watch from outside the Skylight Room?

That’s fine. The event will be audible (and visible in some places) beyond the Skylight Room, so feel free to observe as long as you are respectful and keep walkways clear.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Masks are not required, though we leave it to the author’s preferences. Thank you for honoring their requests and keeping one another safe!

Can I save a seat and then browse the store?

Beginning an hour before the event starts, you are welcome to grab a seat and then shop! Please do not save seats for yourself or others before 6:00pm.

Can I reserve a specific seat?

We offer unassigned, open seating for our free in-store events. If you have an ADA need or request, please email events@example.com by an hour before the event starts.

Why do you need my email when I register?

So that we can communicate with you about the event, including helpful reminders. We will never sell your email to anyone, ever.

Can I watch in-person events from home?

Sorry — hybrid events are surprisingly difficult and resource-intensive to produce, and we are not able to offer that at this time.

Why is registration still open if the event is full?

Many folks who register do not end up attending, so we keep registration open. Registering does not hold a seat or standing room, and there may not be room for you to enjoy the event.
