A multi-generational family bookstore

Lantern Street Books is a large independent bookstore located in the heart of downtown Anytown, California since 1966. Owned by the same family since 1973, it is a multi-generational family business.

We take immense pride in being an independent bookstore, with the ability and desire to reflect the interests of local readers — and we hold strong ties to the community.

We fill over 20,000 square feet with new, used, and sale books along with extensive cards, gifts, and toys. With over 49,000 members in our frequent buyer program, the Readers’ Club, we’ve garnered loyal customers for over five decades and have been voted “Best Bookstore” in Anytown County for more than 25 consecutive years.

Surrounded by mountains and the ocean, and home to a university and a community college, Anytown boasts a strong intellectual community dedicated to the written word. We nurture it with a comprehensive author event series — in our beautiful event space, the Skylight Room, and at offsite venues.
